Mexican Spotted Owl

My father is a biologist and he goes birding quite often. A large aspect of birding is "owling". I have always loved hearing the many sounds these birds make but we all know the famous trade mark of the owl; it's eyes. I decided to do a watercolor of this bird because watercolor allows for as much or little detail as you want; I wanted the details to be in the face to emphasize the eyes. I used this site for a picture reference.

Coagulated Dark Yellow

Watercolor on hot press paper.

*SOLD* I Made The Sunrise

This landscape can be viewed out of the Sohre Residential Hall facing the valley of St. Peter, MN. This was a view I looked at when I was taking a break from studying, when I woke up in the morning, etc. The sunrise that morning was not filled with warm sunlight and inviting shades of warm blues, it was cold and almost made me feel claustrophobic. I took a picture of this sunrise not knowing why I felt incline to do so. This was that picture and I wanted to create my own sunrise.

Color Study of "I Made The Sun Rise"

I started a landscape painting and I wanted to figure out which color scheme I wanted before I started painting so this is how I did that. I chose the bottom right color scheme.

Tortoro

Tortoro has always been a favorite character of mine even from childhood. This is an ink and watercolor warmup study.

Moving Forward

This is oil and plaster on canvas. This piece was an environmental standup when the BP oil leak that happened from 20 April – 15 July 2010. I was so devastated by the disaster that I was more depressed than usual for weeks. This painting is a sign of hope that helps me believe that the people out there fighting these travesties feel just as I do, and will fight until we stop killing our earth and its inhabitants.

Ruby Throated Humming Bird

SOLD. This is a mapping based piece focusing on the migration of the Ruby Throated Humming Bird. This is ink and watercolor. This bird travels back and forth from southern Mexico to southern Canada. One of the places it stops before continuing on it's migration is St. Peter, MN (where I go to college at). The mapping behind the bird are various places its been spotted. The bird itself is layered to show the extreme elevation it flies at.
